Merline was born on the Caribbean island of Jamaica in the West Indies. It was there, at an early age, that she received her Christian training.
Merline's mother and father instilled in her and her seven siblings the qualities of love, appreciation for others and hard work. Sister Grant had a dream to one day come to the United States of America to partake of its opportunities to become successful. By faith, in 1982 God brought her here to the USA. Through her continued obedience to God, hard work and listening to the wisdom of her mother, Hortese Grant, Sister Merline's Dream has become a reality. Sister Grant is an entrepreneur with three restaurants - two in Chicago and one in Calumet City. Prior to becoming a restaurateur, she owned and operated Hairsmith Beauty Salon. Sister Grant has provided employment for over 100 people. But with all her successes, she never forgot Matthew 26:35. "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in."
Sister Grant was elevated by God in July, 2004 to be ordained as an Evangelist. Her dreams have become a reality of life support for countless people. She formed an outreach ministry which has become Myrna's House of Refuge. This organization aids the homeless, abused women and their children, and all those seeking a second chance in life. This organization has helped over 1000 people. Myrna also works closely with DCFS to provide jobs for those receiving their services.
Merline's family is also very much involved in her ministry of giving. Her sisters Lila Grant, Doritt Lindsey, Joan Hill; and her brothers Gerald and Lynton Grant work with her at her restaurants, and support her in her various endeavors. Her daughter, Stacie; and son-in- law David are also involved and supportive of Sister Grant. Stacie also regularly sends food and clothing to underprivileged children in Jamaica. Stacie and David have also blessed her with a granddaughter, Bianca; and a grandson, Canaan.
Sister Grant has received several plaque awards and many certificates of appreciation including, but not limited to:
Lula M. Johnson Excellence Award, year 2000
Sheila Hickland Ministries Award of Appreciation
Hospitality for Pastors and Organizations
